The town of Grand Falls-Windsor is the location of the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Center (CNRHC), our 130 acute care bed secondary care facility that serves the western part of our region. The facility provides specialty services such as anaesthesia, general internal medicine, general surgery, neurology, obstetrics/gynaecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, paediatrics, pathology, psychiatry, urology, and radiology.
Grand Falls-Windsor offers a very active and vibrant cultural community with art shows, choirs, a community jazz band, local music and entertainment, drama club, dinner theatre and theatre festivals. The town has a number of activities for the outdoor enthusiast. There is a local cross-country ski club and trail, parks for camping, and waterways in the vicinity of the town for activities such as kayaking, canoeing and white water rafting. Hunting and fishing lodges are located in the central area (in close proximity to the town) and salmon fishing on the Exploits River is a favourite activity of many local residents. The town is home to two stadiums, ideal for both competitive and recreational ice hockey and figure skating. Tennis courts, baseball and soccer fields and a nine-hole golf course are also accessible within the town limits. Finally, the town has many indoor sports facilities, including the YMCA (gymnasium, weight room, squash courts and swimming pool), billiards room, bowling alley and curling club.
The weather offers above average temperatures in the summer and beautiful snow covered winters to the approximately 15,000 residents of the town who boast about their low crime rate, good air, water quality and spectacular scenery.
