Description:

There are 3 permanent, full time Anesthesiology positions available. 

The Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital is located at 67 Manitoba Drive, Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), Canada.  It provides services to a catchment area of approximately 20,000 people.

The hospital has 41 acute care beds (2 palliative care, 26 medical/surgical, 8 obstetrics, 1 pediatric, 4 ICU), 9 ER, and 44 long-term care. Services to patients include: anesthesia, chemotherapy, family practice, general surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, ICU/Cardiac, internal medicine, laboratory, palliative care, pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry, radiology, respiratory therapy, ultrasonography and 24-hour emergency (category A). Other services include nursing, nutritional, pharmacy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, pastoral care, social work, diabetic education and speech language pathology.  Visiting clinics include: neurology and ophthalmology.

The long term care patients are located in the Dr. Albert O’Mahony Manor. This is a long term care facility attached to the hospital. There are 2 other facilities that are affiliated with the Clarenville Hospital and located in the town. Coish Place houses 3 Family Practitioners/Hospitalists and 2 Psychiatrists. The facility also offers various community support programs including dialysis. The Bungalow is a 10-bed protective care facility.

The Anesthesiologist is expected to function as a member of the surgical team and be responsible for the provision of anesthetic services to surgical patients in an acute care centre. Direct involvement in the care of the patient pre- and post-operatively is required with the Anesthesiologist assuming responsibility for pre-admission anesthesia clinics as well as post-operative pain management. The successful applicant is expected to administer epidurals/spinals to labor and delivery patients and to work an on-call schedule that is shared equitably including holidays and weekends. The successful incumbent must be willing to work in a team-based, client-focused department. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements. 

 

Qualifications:
  • Medical Degree with specialist training in Anesthesiology.
  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (or equivalent) in Anesthesiology.

Dates:Open until filled - Permanent Position
Hours of Work:75 hours bi-weekly plus on call.
Remuneration:

Pay scale is in accordance with the Department of Health (DOH) salary guidelines. The specialist salary scale is: Step 1- $263,672 to Step 3 - $285,596.  On-call is billable to MCP.

Eastern Health is prepared to provide assistance to offset expenses related to relocation, contingent on the execution of a return-in-service agreement.  In order to be eligible for reimbursement, the incumbent must remain employed with Eastern Health for a period of 24 worked months. Relocation expenses will be approved in accordance with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Relocation Policy.
