We are currently recruiting a Medical Officer of Health working within the Public Health Program for Newfoundland & Labrador. Responsible for the Labrador Grenfell Health Region the Medical Officer of Health will be responsible for the development of public health programs and services that promote and protect the health of the population. The primary location of work for this position will be within the Labrador-Grenfell Health Region. Supporting the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Medical Officer of Health will work with Labrador Grenfell Health Senior Leadership, Physicians, Indigenous partners and other Public Health Stakeholders to serve the population health needs of the region. The successful incumbents are responsible for the development of effective public health programs and services that promote and protect the health of the population, which includes the prevention of disease and elimination of health hazards, within their regional population. The incumbent provides medical advice to other physicians, as necessary, and works collaboratively within the public health sector stakeholder group to measure, monitor and develop strategies to influence the key determinants of health within their geographic scope. Within their regional population, the MOH provides oversight for: 1) the implementation of population-based programs, 2) planning initiatives, policies, and strategies for population health protection; 3) health promotion; 4) disease and injury surveillance and prevention; and 5) health risk assessment. The MOH works with Service NL inspectors, the Public Health Laboratory, and other public health workforce within Government, as necessary to address public health concerns.

All candidates must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador and have a medical degree and certification in Public Health and Preventative Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and/or equivalent qualifications in public health.

Hours of Work:75 hours Bi-Weekly

Remuneration will be in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador.
