Description:

Eastern Health is accepting applications for a full time, permanent General Psychiatrist for Clarenville and surrounding area which has a population base of approximately 20,000 people.

The Psychiatry Department, Clarenville is comprised of two full-time salaried Psychiatrists. The position is part of the Mental Health and Addictions Program and provides psychiatric care to patient’s 16 years and older.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing outpatient assessments.
  • Consultation to the emergency department, ICU, medical, surgical, and obstetrical units.
  • On-call.

We are affiliated with the Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador Medical School and encourage and support academic interests.  

The Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville has 41 acute care beds (including 2 palliative care beds), 44 long-term care beds and 9 ER beds. The long term care patients are located in the Dr. Albert O’Mahony Manor. This is a long term care facility that is attached to the hospital. There are 2 other facilities affiliated with the Clarenville Hospital and located in the town. Coish Place houses 2 Psychiatrists. The facility also offers various community support programs including mental health and addiction services and dialysis. The Bungalow is a 10-bed protective care facility.  

Services to patients include: anesthesia, chemotherapy, family practice, general surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, ICU/Cardiac, internal medicine, laboratory, palliative care, pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry, radiology, respiratory therapy, ultrasonography and 24-hour emergency (category A). Other services include nursing, nutritional, pharmacy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, pastoral care, social work, diabetic education and speech language pathology. Visiting clinics include: neurology and ophthalmology.

Qualifications:

The successful incumbent must be licensable by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca) and satisfy the credentialing requirements of Eastern Health. There is assistance with relocation, licensure, and immigration concerns.

Remuneration:

Pay scale is in accordance with the Department of Health (DOH) salary guidelines. The specialist salary scale is: Step 1- $220,147 to Step 5 - $262,714.

Retention package of $8,000 after first year of service, $16,000 after 24 months and $24,000 after 36 months.

On-call benefits paid in accordance with DOH guidelines.

Free housing accommodations are available for the first 3 months of employment.

Incumbent will receive annually 20 days of vacation plus leave for workshops and other training.
