The Laboratory Medicine Program of Eastern Health (EH) invites expressions of interest for a full-time, permanent Anatomical Pathologist and Division Head of Anatomic Pathology. The ideal candidate is a dynamic and enthusiastic leader, with a strong interest in developing services; has strong communication and excellent interpersonal skills; and prepared to function as a consultant to clinicians, laboratory, and academic staff for the anatomic pathology lab.

Eastern Health is the largest integrated health organization in Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) and is accredited with exemplary standing, the highest possible rating, from Accreditation Canada.  It employs over 13,000 employees, provides services to a regional population of more than 300,000 and is responsible for provincial tertiary health services.  The Laboratory Medicine Program is ISO15189 accredited.

The successful candidate will join a group of 16 pathologists, medical microbiologists, and clinical laboratory scientists providing hospital laboratory services.  Our laboratory currently processes approximately 40,000 surgical pathology specimens per year.  On-call coverage is required and shared equitably within the group.  The Health Science Centre is a teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University.

The Division Head role is for a three-year term and may be extended for a second term. The successful candidate must commit 0.5 dedicated workdays per week to this administrative role as well as providing additional flex time to deal with issues that may arise throughout the week.  The Division Head is expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings with the Anatomic Pathology Division and to work closely with the Clinical Head of Laboratory Medicine. 

Through strong formal affiliation with Memorial University, and on the recommendation of the Discipline Chair, the successful candidate may be eligible for a clinical faculty appointment in the Academic Department of Laboratory Medicine and may be expected to participate in collaborative research activities and scholarship (ie: teaching).




To be considered candidates must hold a medical degree and have certification by the Royal College Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (or equivalent) in Anatomical Pathology. All applicants must be eligible for licensure to practice by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Salary and benefits for this position are to be paid in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in NL and commensurate with the level of training and experience.
